Traveling Exercise
To walk like a showgirl/boy/person in burlesque, focus on a smooth, exaggerated leg extension with a slight hip sway, keeping your core engaged, and using your heels to "paint" a line on the floor as you step, while maintaining a confident posture and facial expression; essentially, it's about gliding with purpose, emphasizing your leg line with each step.
Key elements of a showgirl walk:
Leg extension:
When stepping forward, actively extend your leg out in front of you, keeping your knee slightly bent and foot pointed.
Hip sway:
A subtle hip movement that adds a feminine flow to your walk, not too exaggerated.
Heel placement:
Deliberately roll onto the heel of your foot first, then through the ball and onto the toes, "painting" a line with your foot placement.
Core engagement:
Keep your core tight to maintain good posture and control your movement.
Confidence:
Project a confident demeanor with your posture, facial expression, and body language.
Practice in heels:
Get comfortable walking in high heels, focusing on your balance and foot placement.
