About the Team

Miss Marquez

Creator of Empowerment in Heels

Miss Marquez has been named by LA Weekly as “the hardest-working dancer in Los Angeles burlesque” and is one of LA’s most sought after burlesque performers, choreographers, and producers.

She has performed internationally and in LA's most renowned live performance venues since 2010.

Miss Marquez a.k.a Alyssa Marquez took her first dance class at the age of 3. She then spent her life training in classical ballet and has been performing as a professional dancer since high school.

It was, however, Miss Marquez‘s natural affinity for the classic vaudevillian era of entertainment where she found her passion in the art of Burlesque.

Miss Marquez has a nostalgic appreciation for the burlesque performers, Hollywood starlets, and cultural sex symbols who pioneered the way to allow Burlesque to become a growing and more mainstream form of entertainment.

Since 2012 Miss Marquez has enjoyed bringing her tantalizing antics as a solo burlesque performer to some of the nations most illustrious venues including Ivan Kane’s Royal Jelly Burlesque Club, Houston Hospitality’s No Vacancy and Harvard and Stone, Harvelle’s Jazz and Blues Club est. 1931, Cliftons Cafeteria, Highland Park Bowl, Employees Only, and Apotheke LA.

As a Producer Miss Marquez has sold out shows at Los Globos, El Cid, Three Clubs, and Harvelles Santa Monica. She has also coordinated and booked weekly residencies at Apotheke LA, Hotel Figueroa, and Three Clubs.

Flash’N Mountains

Empowerment in Heels Co-Producer

Flash’N Mountains aka Jackie started taking burlesque classes shortly after Miss Marquez launched Empowerment in Heels in 2017. She made her burlesque debut in our first student showcase in March 2018, and was brought onto the EIH team shortly after to manage our social media.

She very quickly became an energetic presence in the EIH community, making a point to remember everyone’s name and curated a welcoming environment for new students. Now as co-producer, she helps create new EIH programming, produce production shows, plan community events, teaches classes, and mentors new students.

About Empowerment in Heels

After attending the first Women’s March in 2017, Miss Marquez was inspired to start a Burlesque School focused on Empowerment as a way to provide a safe space for all bodies to explore the beauty and catharsis of Burlesque. With an emphasis on exploring one’s own individual sexual expression, Empowerment Heels strives to be an inclusive environment for all body shapes, genders, races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations.

Empowerment in Heels first ventured into the production realm to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the first class. That production foray turned into monthly residencies and the creation of Moonlighting Menagerie, yet another safe space where burlesque professionals, burlesque hobbyists, and burlesque newbies could venture into the performing realm, unlike any seen previously.

With our supportive environment and diverse casts not just in identities, but also in performance styles, we are happy to continue raising the bar for burlesque in Los Angeles. We can proudly state that Moonlighting Menagerie established EIH as a launch pad for so many of your favorite burlesque performers and producers in Los Angeles, many of whom continue to perform and take class with us.

Since 2017 Empowerment in Heels has become a pillar in the Los Angeles Burlesque Community not only offering weekly classes, but also Monthly Shows, Specialty Workshops, Private Coaching, and more. Sign up for our newsletter so you don’t miss out on our next exciting offerings!
